In the US last night, the Dow gained 41 points to 17,653, the Nasdaq added 5 points at 4,680 and the S&P 500 edged up 1 point to 2,039.
In Asia today, the Nikkei was recently up 36 points at 17,459 and the Hang Seng had added 20 points at 24,036.
WTI crude oil traded at $74.25 a barrel and Brent at $77.88.
Gold settled at $1,158.2 an ounce.
LONDON MARKETS
In the corporate diary today, interim results are due from Castings, New Europe Property Investments, Romgaz and Sirius Real Estate and trading statements are expected from Aggreko, Alpha Pyrenees, Drax Group, Hill & Smith Holdings, IMI, Rotork and The Restaurant Group.
