In the US last night, the Dow fell 66 points to 15,901, the Nasdaq lost 11 points at 3,921 and the S&P500 shed 7 points at 1,781.
In Asia today, the Nikkei was recently up 250 points at 15,326 and the Hang Seng off 123 points at 23,578.
WTI crude oil traded at $93.33 a barrel and Brent crude at $108.06.
Gold settled at $1,257 an ounce.
In the corporate diary today, interim results are due from Bridge Energy, Dart Group, Enteq Upstream, Investec, Johnson Matthey, Mothercare, National Grid, PayPoint, QinetiQ Group, SABMiller and Wentworth Resources.
Final results are scheduled from Optos, Renew Holdings and UDG Healthcare.
